Last autoportrait of JEM
I have been influenced by the work of my grandfather Jean Edmond MARTY (1900 – 1968)

He was borned in 1900 and studied one year in Bordeaux at the Beaux Arts.
He stopped his classes during the war of 1914.
When the war ended, he was too old to go back to his art classes.
He also began to design advertising signboards and developed his own style of calligraphy. Even so, my grandfather continued always to paint under the name of JEM. His style of painting was quite naïve as that of the Douanier Rousseau.

His brother, Gaston MARTY, however, three years younger, who was also interested in art, entered the Beaux Arts and after graduating became one of Bordeaux’s Beaux Arts’ teachers of great renown. He also became a quite famous painter and had many exhibitions in Bordeaux.

Michäel Patterson who is one of the best
watercolour artist painter I have ever met.
He gave me the confidence to paint.

I adore Van Gogh and Chris Van Allburg who writes books for children.

I also love Klimt, Schiele, Munch, Macke, Klee, Vuillard, Bonnard, Matisse, Hundertwasser, Modigliani, Giotto and Gao Xingjian.
